Field notebooks and data relating to Australian Archaeology and Anthropology

Series AA 31/1 comprises field notebooks, notes and other material relating to Black's archaeological and anthropological fieldwork in Australia. This material is housed in Box 1.

Correspondence relating to Australian anthropology and archaeology

Series AA 31/2 comprises Black's anthropological and archaeological correspondence, as well as correspondence, minutes, agendas and other material relating to the Anthropological Society of South Australia (see AA 824) and the Board for Anthropological Research (see AA 346). This series is housed in Box 2.

Notes relating to Australian history

Series AA 31/3 includes notebooks, loose notes and other material compiled by Black on various aspects of Australian history. This series is housed in Box 3.

Notebooks, reference materials, newspaper clippings relating to anthropology, archaeology, medicine and history

Series AA 31/4 comprises Black's notebooks on various topics related to anthropology, archaeology and medicine, as well as published books and papers, unpublished material, newspaper clippings and other reference material. This series is housed in Boxes 4-6.

Drafts of published papers and manuscripts

Series AA 31/5 comprises drafts of Black's published papers, and drafts of a paper on Aboriginal material culture that he was working on at the time of his death. This material is housed in Boxes 8-13. Illustrations that Black had compiled for the latter paper are housed in Box 14.

Photographs, negatives, slides, postcards, illustrations, painting, maps and film created or collected by EC Black

CONTAINS RESTRICTED MATERIAL

Series AA 31/6 comprises photographic prints, negatives, slides, mounted photographs and artworks. Loose prints, negatives and slides are stored in photo albums; postcards, large format photographs and framed photographs are housed in Boxes 15 and part 19. Some larger artworks are housed in a plan cabinet drawer along with Black's maps (Series 7).

Maps and plans relating to South Australian anthropology, archaeology and historical sites as well as topographical maps of Europe, America, Africa and Pacific Islands

Series AA 31/7 comprises maps annotated by Black with archaeological sites and other data as well as other maps used by Black for research purposes, and some aerial photographs. Maps are housed in a plan cabinet drawer or in Boxes 18 and 20.

Correspondence, certificates, notebooks, lecture notes, photographs, and programmes relating to Black's personal life and medicine

Series AA 31/8 comprises personal correspondence of EC Black, as well as material relating to his medical career.

Papers, photographs and maps relating to Black's service with the British Royal Army Medical Corps during WWI

Series AA 31/9 comprises diaries, notebooks, correspondence, maps and photographs relating to Black's service with the British Royal Army Medical Corps during World War 1.
