The following notebooks are included in this series:

  1. Notebook 1: labelled 'Gas poisoning in warfare' on rear cover: Notes on the early history of the south-east of South Australia, and notes on the treatment of gas poisoning, evidently relating to Black's service in World War 1.
  2. Notebook 2: labelled 'Captain Sturt': Brief handwritten notes about Sturt's expedition down the River Murray in 1830.
  3. Notebook 3: labelled 'Flinders & Baudin at Denial Bay': Extracts from the journals of Flinders and Baudin at Denial Bay, on the SA west coast.
